This past weekend I saw a BIG(mature) buck pushing a doe. By that I mean he was kinda herding her in the direction he wanted her to go. They were not in any hurry, she had her tail up several times but wasn't alarmed. I just figured she was in estrous. Here's my question. Do mature bucks tend to push does to where they feel safe or was I just experiencing the buck following the doe as she meandered through the woods?
Thanks. Dustin

Yes. If the mature fellas are gonna court in the daylight hours, chances are they are gonna do it thick cover or in an area they feel secure.

Good luck but not likely. Good place for another buck, though.

Actually it is about the only place I can hunt without someone walking over me or even close to me. On a good note, there is a pretty good scrape line going through there and several fresh rubs. The very best thing I got going is, the does are there.

Yearling, 2 1/2 and 3 1/2 year-old bucks simply follow an estrus doe wherever she goes. That's what gets so many of them killed during the rut. However, mature bucks often drive an estrus doe to thick cover. That's why they DON'T get killed that often during the peak of the rut.
