I just wanted some input from folks on this board about temps.

Obviously, with everyone expecting a huge weekend because of the cold temps, I was surprised to find very little early morning activity. On the other side of that, I noticed that the really warm temperatures from a few weeks ago really killed the afternoon hunt.

So here are my questions:

1. Does temperature have that much of an effect on deer movement, and if so, what have you noticed.
2. Can it be too cold (is this why I saw a lot of late morning activity).
3. What is your prefered low/high temps?

in my neck of the woods i've noticed that temps in the 20's will just about lock down the deer movement just as good as extreme high temps will. i prefer temps to be between 33-45 degrees when im hunting

I didn't see or hear a deer this morning until 9:30.. and I was wondering if really cold temps this early could be a bad thing.

Spent both Saturday and Sunday morning in the woods in Scott County. Personally I did not see any. However saturday morning temps in the low 30's heard probaly 20-30 gun shots, started about 30 minutes after sunrise and ran for about an hour and a half to two hours pretty steady. This morning temps in the mid 20's heard half as many shots in the same time frame, perhaps starting a little later after sunrise. I would probaly attribute this to there be half as many hunters in the woods though not so much the cooler temps.

Colder weather will have the deer on their feet during daylight hours more often than warmer temps. It seems to me that warmer weather...and this sounds contradictory...has the deer bedded before sunrise. With temps rising during the day and it warmer the last hour of daylight than it was at sunrise, there seems to be more deer on their feet then. Maybe it's because the warmer temps has them bedded earlier and for a longer period during the day and they are hungrier and ready to eat just prior to sunset...I don't know???

I like 30-50 degree temps right now. But come December...the colder the better.

I worry more about the fronts moving through than I do the temps. Pressure changes and wind have ruined more hunts than temperature for me.

This weekend temps were almost perfect. I think there are a few
hunters that might be disippointed with their kill results, but
in my area the "true" rut has not kicked in yet.

I watched a good 1.5 6 pointer this morning on the move. He was
oblivious to his surroundings. Poor little fellow will probably
be dead before the week ends. I hope not because it looked like
he had what it takes to have a huge rack if he could make it to
3.5 or older.
