Got to the stand tonight and after about 15 minutes I heard a chase coming my way. They were through the timber about 100 yds out and I could just see bits and pieces. They would head my way then go back. I had saw at least 3 bucks but no doe. I flipped the can a couple times and the smaller bucks started my way a spike and a 6. The third buck was an 8 but he was about 80 yards with a cedar between him and I. I thought he had just hung up but he actually had the doe.

The spike came all the way to the backside of my tree while the 6 point came to 40yds. Then they all disappeared. Twenty minutes later I spotted legs moving from the way the 8pt had went. It was the doe with him in tow. she was just milling around eating acorns here and there but slowly working her way to me. The buck was letting her stay 20-30 yards in front of him.

Then the problem appeared, on her current path she was going to end up down wind of me and spook before he got clear. She had got to the point I figured she would bust me and just stopped. He was watching her and I was watching him but I only had a neck shot. This stand off went on 5 minutes (forever). He finally took a small step and decided he was tired of it. They he just laid down. I decided to let him lie an put the shockwave through the base of the neck an exited the rear of the opposite ribcage. His head dropped over and he never moved from his bed.

His front hooves have a bit of curl upwards. Maybe a EHD survivor?

My wife took some picks when I got home but this one I thought was cute. The dog is too skeered to move so she snapped his pic.

Congrats on a good looking deer and a great story. What have you got him on in the picture? Is a Gator or some kind of home made carrier for a 4-wheeler?

Curved hooves, def. indicator of EHD surviving. I have seen it many times. Usually you can take your hand and flex the tips.

I took a large 6 pointer a couple of years ago that had the curved up hoofs. I was told he was a EHD survivor.
