Been up there since Tuesday and got home tonight. Deer are putting down quite a bit of sign and I'm thinkin the first gun hunt is gonna be good. Didn't see any chasin going on and the only buck I saw was cruising at 11:00 this morning. We had really bad weather yesterday and today with the wind blowing bad all day yesterday and until I left today. Also had some pretty hard rain walking in this morning. This was my 34th year to hunt LBL and this is probably the biggest acorn crop I have ever seen. Several years have been big but this one is unbelievable. Its actually hard to walk on some ridges. If I was hunting the first gun hunt I would find the thickest, nastiest cutover I could and sit there from dark til dark. I'm thinking the rut will be wide open up there by next Friday.

I'll be there for the first gun hunt next weekend. Hopefully they will be up and running by then.

Sounds good, thanks for the info. I didn't get drawn on the quota but, I am headed up Monday to hunt a couple days before the quota. Hope the forecast doesnt change. Tuesday and Wednesday should be great hunting.

I went up yesterday with Bertman. We still hunted and scouted. We saw deer from daylight through noon in many different locations. We saw some chasing going on as well. We went to one of those thicket areas we love to hunt in hope of finding a bit more sign and locate a second stand site for my Quota Gun hunt next week. We found some sign alright, LOL.
We had just made it back to where one of our sweet spots and were looking at the tree when a REAL nice buck walked about 15 yards right to us. It looked like he didn't have a clue that we were there until I went to nock an arrow. As soon as I did he was gone as quick as he came. Probably a 140" class deer with nice mass and a huge body. Oh well. That is how it goes sometimes. We were outside of the thicket and with all the sign we saw I doubt he will leave this area for good. I'm hoping to get another look at him tomorrow. ;\)
Acorns are definitely keeping the deer held tight to ridges and thick cover.

A friend of a friend stopped by LBL for an evening hunt yesterday. He ended up busting a 155" hoss!
