I thought you were looking for a "hunting buddy" or a "partner".

Only do this on private land, or if you're pretty sure you are the only hunter in the area.

And it's dangerous. Cotton insulates fairly well when dry, but if you sweat much or get rained on--or wear a rain suit--, it will not insulate at all once wet, and it takes forever to dry. Wool and many synthetics will isulatr when wet and they dry quickly. When cold weather rolls around, or when I am backpacking, you will not find a single thread of cotton on me or in my pack.

Isometric exercises.

Here is what I do: While sitting or standing, start by tightening your gut and chest muscles, forcing blood from your heated core into you shoulders, gluts, and thighs. Then, without relaxing, tense your gluts, forcing blood downward into thighs and legs. Then without relaxing, tense thighs, forcing blood into calves and feet. Last, without relaxing, tense your calves forcing warm blood all the way into your feet and toes. Hold for 10 seconds or so and relax, allowing that now cool blood to flow back to your core. Repeat until extremeties feel warm. Between using your muscles and forcing good blood flow, it will warm you up in a hurry. Repeat for shooulders/upper arms/lower arms/hands.

Warning: I am not a doctor and for all I know this could be dangerous, particularly if you have a heart condition, clotting issues, etc. Also, if you are not insulated, are low on food/energy, or hypothermic, this could drop your core temperature and accelerate hypothermia.

Thanks everyone. I will have the hand warmers. I will ditch the cotton where I can.

Bowriter (I figured you would know for sure) were you saying cotton and the silk? I checked this morning and they are 100 polyester layer 1 polartec.

My biggest problm is being out of shape and over weight. I will keep the jackets and hat off on my way in to avoid sweating.

The only problem I've had was keep'n my feet and hands warm.

I got some of them "HotHands" warmers (the large size), and put'em in my boots & pockets....problem solved.

I've hunted many times from daylight to dark with the same ones.

I did have to get boots a size larger though, to maintain ample breathing room, but I only wear one pair of thin polyester socks.

Other than that, I just wear thermals, jeans & fleece top , insulated coveralls and a wool knit cap....works for me.

No. The silk is fine...infact it is superb for first layer. It has tremendous wicking properties. But the cotton is nothing but a moisture sponge. Get rid of it.

Here is how I dress when it is really cold.

Two layers of underwear. First layer is a polyester/silk blend (very expensive) made for arctic work. Second layer is expedition weight long handles. Wool pants and a wool blend with something jacket. Two layers socks, one poly and very thin, one heavy 100% wool. If it is extremely cold, I cover it all with an expedition weight set of coveralls. I use the disposable hand warmers for hands feet and wrists and sometimes the small of my back.

But tomorrow, at 25 degrees, that isn't all that cold. The wind will make it tough. Just try to avoid sweating and good luck.

Since i freeze when it's only 50 degrees out, I've found that wool is my best friend.
No matter how cold it is when I first get started from the truck walking to the stand site, I wear a T-shirt and gloves only on my upper body, and dress for warmth on my lower body. Once I get to the stand site, I put my stand together (it's a backpack ladder stand) and that 2-3 minutes allows for a good cool down. After I've cooled off as much as possible, i wipe off any remaining sweat with a dry wash cloth, and then get dressed. I put the t-shirt and the wash cloth in a ziplock bag in my pack...and I'm good to hunt all day.
If it's really cold sometimes I have to come down to walk around a bit to warm up (maybe 10 minutes or so), but I haven't been busted out doing that ...YET. It's bound to happen sooner or later though.

If your always cold you may want to invest in something like the Artic Shield outter wear. It's got this foil like liner that reflects your body heat back to you. It's also windproof and waterproof.

I use some outerwear by Russel Outdoors which I think is a Mossy Oak brand but not sure. Anyways, I have the L4 jacket and pants. which is their layer 4 in a 5 layer system. There is one outer layer that is made for colder and wetter but this stuff works for 95 % of what is going on when I'm out there and I have some lightweight rain gear that I throw over it if I need to. It's not waterproof but close enough to it. It has a DWR, durable water repellent, and it kept me warm and dry even in that 40 degree rain we had on Friday. You will need to use your silk or and or thermals under it for anything 45 deg and down but so far it's worked for me even today with 27 degrees and stayed on stand till 10...I killed a deer or would have stayed longer.

What some others said about head loosing heat it's true. Use a ball cap to walk in with but after you cool off when you get on stand take that off and put a fleece or wool cap on. Will help a LOT!

I wear thin gloves and either keep my hands in my pockets with hand warmers in them or one of those tube hand warmers with a warmer in there. They work awesome.

Lastly, there is one other option. Wear exactly what you have but carry some insulated coveralls in with you. After you get there and cool off and stop sweating you put the insulated coveralls right over everything. They are bulky but don't weigh much and should be good for a 0 deg day.

You can even get some of those boot covers. A couple companies make them but Artic Shield makes some good ones. You can even put some Hot Hands toe warmers in there and you feet will be toasty. Just don't let your feet sweat or your a goner. They will get cold. I have to put antiperspirant on my feet or they sweat and get cold no matter what I do.

If that don't keep you warm, keep to hunting in September and October.
