I would hang a stand in that tree and hunt like crazy.LOL Time spent on a deer that rubs like that is not time wasted. A rub that big gets me tore up.

Maybe. Depends on the situation. A single large sign-post rub can be an indication of a deer travel route concentration point, which can be a very good place to hunt near the rut.

You're far more knowledgable on this that I am, so I'll trust your judgment here, but I would really study the situation carefully before dedicating time to a isolated rub. A isolated big rub might be able to tell you something about deer movement within the context of the area, and that's what I generally try to consider when I see a rub like that.

I agree. And that's why I said "Maybe." It all depends on the habitat/terrain situation whether a single sign-post rub is "meaningful" or not.

A sign post rub is typicly hit year after year by multiple deer. That tree looks just like a big rub...But if it is continued to be used this year and years to come from here on out by multiple deer then it will become what I consider a sign post rub. I also think that generaly, sign post rubs are often very visible for some distance... If it is not hit again then it will remain just a big rub....just my thought 
I didn't read all the posts so this may have been said. I agree with the above 90%.
It may well be a signpost rub this year. It becomes a traditional rub-one that is hit year after year-and of course can be a signpost rub as well.
Let me explain: If the deer that made it, made it as a signpost for him, it is a signpost rub and may or may not freshened by that buck or other bucks throughout the season. It may not be touched next year but for one year, it was a signpost rub. It meant something and of course we have no way of knowing for sure. But for one year, it may also be nothing more than "a big rub".
Think of a sign post rub as we think of roadside signs when driving. They provide information. Some are easy to understand. Those at road or stream crossings, those marking places to scent check scrapes etc. Others just leave us baffled and adjusting our personals.
But if a rub appears there next year, you can bet on two things-it is/was a signpost rub and it is now a traditional rub. When I really worked at it, these signpost rubs were one of my greatest tools in post season scouting. In a minute I'll post a picture of a signpost rub that beat me. The deer that made it was hit by a truck the night I had to leave for another state.
A guide at Willow POint showed me a tree that he said had been rubbed every year for at least 15 years. The tree was as big around as my waist and you could see tine marks all the way around it. He said they had had stands near it for a long time but never saw anything larger than a basket 8 rub it.
Go figure
The buck that made this rub got hit by a truck the night I had to quit hunting him. They said he was "Quite Large" For some real good, factuat information on rubsm see if you can fnd a book on them by John Ozoga. It is a dandy book.
