Knightrider I think he is referring to spit from chew. It has a very strong odor. My assumption would be that it could be worse than cigs. Smoke goes away. Spit from chew would take a while.

I wonder what a 4.5 or older deer would think about "dip spit"
on public land? Would he be used to it, or would he avoid that
area altogether.

You know I always hear talk about scent control this and scent control that.....in some instences it matters in others it dont. Now dont get me wrong, scent control is important, but Ive seen deer killed by a guys in work clothes. Smoking cigs and 15 yards away from the deer when they shoot. A few weeks ago, a buddy made a mock scrape using his boot , then peeing in it. he put his trail cam up 10 yards from the scrape and got pics that day of 2 nice 8 points.

As for the dip/chew spit question.......it just depends on what im hunting out of. ground blinds......i rake the leaves away anyhow so i just spit in the dirt. If im in a tree........i just spit in between the ladder and the tree. Ive never seen a deer spook because of it, when the spook its usually something ive done to warn them.

I guess it boils down to whether I'm just "huntin'" for the fun of it, or if I'm focused on killing that one special buck. Yes, a mature buck can smell dip spit and they don't like it. Deer like it even less if it lands on their head. Burns if it gets in their eyes. \:\)
