I got to thinking in the stand the other day and an idea just wandered across my mind. Is there any way that TWRA could maybe put together a calendar that showed the average harvest for each particular day based on the data from past years kills. The idea kind of spawned off of how fishermen keep logs of catches and that cycle will pretty much hold true.

I know that there are a ton of different variables that can be thrown into this, but I was just thinking of keeping it simple. Compiling a calendar that would divide the state into 6 regions like northwest, southwest, northcentral, southcentral, northeast, southeast. On each date could be the average harvest for each day or just the total harvest.

Just thought this could give some people a better idea of when to be in the woods.

The figures might be somewhat skewed towards hunters habits and tendancys more so than the deers imo...opening day of gun season would show a big spike across the board...week ends and holidays would more likely be higher....

Every chance you get. This is the only "variable" us hunters can control that will influence our success over time. (assuming one is hunting where deer are present)

I should have taken that into account.

Yes I would say every hunter understands that concept, but not everyone is blessed with an entire weekend off or a surplus of vacation days. I know the calendar is a fairly "elementary" idea, but just thinking it would give people a better insight on when to choose their available time to be hunting.

The TWRA does publish daily kill numbers from the previous year.

I saw similar information on deer sightings in Mississippi. I did one of the record books myself for them for turkey season. Most deer sighting were in the early morning and the later evening... ya think? because there few people, if anyone in the woods between 11 and 2 to observe movement.
