best one to purchase? vented or does it matter? source? how much taller should they be than the seedling?
I plan on using a stake and zip tie on each one. I just notice the pricing is really variable

I would go with vented and 4' or 5' footers. You want them tall enough that the deer can't browse the tops as they come out of the tubes. And the vented will help the trees to not get to hot in the summer and to harden off in the winter.

I'd use the corragated drainage pipe from lowes or some where. It comes in variuos diameters...I may not understand exactly what your needing tho..

I would think that would cause a problem when the tree gets too big for the pipe. Tree tubes are designed to disinigrate.

Well I split the drain pipe up the side with hedge a trimmer or a sharp knife. Works great and is very inexpensive.

The blck pipe can cause trouble in the summer during some years with some species. Black gets really hot and cooks the tree. Vented tubes are best for most species, some are good with solid. Others will winterkill with solids.

I would not use anything black but thats just me. Think how hot you get in a black shirt versus a light color shirt.

I agree, part of the color and design of these tree tubes is to give it the "green house" effect. IMO this is a situation if you try to save money you will lose it I. The end. The right tubes are cheaper than replacing trees.

I dont think thats a problem, they would just bust the tube, heck, trees can move rocks out of the way.
