So ive been hunting a couple of properties since the opening day of bow and only had a shot at one doe and not seen much else. I live near a patch of woods on the lake and had seen deer there a couple times in my life but never hunted it so today at around 4 pm i figured id take the climber and go waste some time. I got settled in by 4:30 (very late by my standards) and began watching squirrels. Around 6 i had a small fawn run in and begin feeding on acorns and finally around 630 momma came out and i downed my first deer of the season and she was a whopper . Couldnt get any good pics because it was quite dark when i found her (ran nearly 400 yds). Lessons learned today, dont be afraid to hunt a place you feel has nothing to offer and the more important one, if the blood trail is running thin and you lose it a time or 2 that doesnt mean she got away.

"Unlikely spots" can produce some unlikely results, especially
on older deer. It seems the older deer have figured out where to
be, where us human predators are not.

I love those tiny places that no one wants to waist time on. I know a few people that will not hunt on less than 50 acres. I had a guy tell me one time that anyone that tries to hunt less than 100 acres was stupid. I guess that makes me a moron.
