Cover scents don't work. You can't "overwhelm" a deer's nose. How long have drug smugglers been trying to overwhelm the noses of drug-sniffing dogs and failed?
But if they make you feel more confident, then have at it...

I have tried for 8 years to fool the nose on my Lab "Bunk", its been 8 years of failure

BSK are you saying you enter the woods with the scent of a dryer sheet? They may hot 100% fool a deer's nose, but they do help..

Not BSK but no,scent control is good ,and can add to confidence, but if a deer is down wind,he will smell you and leave, most people get confused and think their cover scent worked when a deer got "down wind".When,in fact, the thermals carried your scent over the deeer,or a cross wind half way there carried your scent by the deer, etc, etc.
Nice example on the drug sniffing dog BTW.

I stood beside a friend the other day, as we talked. During the conversation, I walked around to the other side of him. That was when the strong odor of smoke hit me.......
Trying to fool a deer's nose is not possible......limiting your odor with scent eliminators is your only option and all this does is give the deer less odor to detect.....
It might help keep a deer close enough for a shot if it is unsure of your location (scent not heavy), but if you are trying to actually fool the nose of a downwind deer, then good luck...
upwind though, you can get by with anything....
also, if anyone tells you that they DID get by with being scent free and fooled a deer's nose, then something kept their scent from reachuing the deer (wind shift, thermals, something)...
oh....the term scent free is a term that should never be used because it is impossible to achieve....
lol

We think cover scents work because OUR human nose is so easy to over-power with other strong smells. Yet we humans have one of the worst senses of smell of any mammal. Deer have a nose better than a bloodhound, and it is virtually impossible to over-power a bloodhound's nose using strong scents. They smell the strong "cover" odor and the human underneath.
Personally, I'm a huge believer in scent reduction products, but cover scents--scents that theoretically overpower a deer's ability to smell us by producing a stronger smell--absolutely do not work.
