I have for the most part hunted public land my entire life. Not complaining in fact the challenges that you face is sometimes what I enjoy the most about hunting. Even though I thoroughly enjoy the challenge, I am constantly daydreaming of that one untouched unseen large block of land that I would have to myself. Selfish I know.
Ever dream of that? Anyone ever have the opportunity to hunt prime ground that is virtually unhunted? Where nothing has been killed in years? What if anything is different about trying to kill these bucks?

No such thing in my neck of the woods. Even if landowners dont want people hunting, its still going to hunted/lighted/dogged like crazy if good bucks are in there. You just cant keep it a secret.

But now I do know a place where hunting was mostly stopped for several years on nearly 10 square miles of land. However folks started hearing about the bucks there that would just let you ride or walk right up to them and they started slipping in. Ended up with many over 150 coming off there and a couple of Booners, but illegally of course. The owners ended up giving up and just letting folks hunt it, not so many big ones there now that they gave up though.

I'm not sure there's very many places like that left any more. Everybody's got that "winning the lottery" dream, and going out and buying up 1000 acres on some mountain somewhere. Then hiring BSK to go in for a year or so and turning it into the ultimate sanctuary. That's my dream.

I am hunting some property now that has not been hunted since 1988! I havent hunted public land my whole life, just off and on for the last few years and I can tell you unpressured deer are less easily spooked than, say a deer on public land that is hunted by everyone and their brother.

I can kind of see where you're comin' from saying the deer with less pressure have less chances of spooking off. I live as well as hunt in Wilson County (a fast growing county) and I hunt the hills of Hickman County. Here, these deer aren't forced to move due to new developments or have the high pressure of highway traffic. The deer in Hickman seem much more aware of whats goin' on around them than the "city" deer.

Our place is in Hickman County as well. And you've got that right on the deer knowing EVERYTHING that goes on around them. They are VERY, VERY smart

It's unbelievable the difference I've noticed in them. Me and dad were talkin' about the knowledge that's overlooked in some of these bigger deer. One example is his superstition these deer will sometimes follow behind a flock of turkey.. as they see everything going. lol Claims hes seen that a couple times, but I myself haven't..
