Great story. I got the Doe hunt about 4 years ago. Like you I did not have a 4 wheeler and did some major walking trying to get away from everyone. didn't work though. Weather was not the greatest. Scouting day was horrible. One guy killed a doe about 200 yards behind the check station so go figure. Started building up points for the buck hunt but then figured I might be in a wheel chair at the nursing home before I got drawn for that so next year will put in for the doe hunt again. Neat place to hunt.

Yea when i got drawn for the buck hunt 2 years ago. I drove through the check area, parked my truck, walked about 100 yards, climbed my stand and saw 33 bucks and 3 shooters in the three days hunting. You just never know.

You are WELCOME in my camp ANYTIME!!!

That story is what deer hunting and MANAGEMENT are all about.

I know it is probably of no comfort to you now, but after having shared MANY similar experiences over the last 400 bow kills or so (not all mine), I suggest to you that there is a REAL possibility this doe survives and might even be checked in later by another hunter!!! I've seen it before.

Well, thanks. I'll show up in your camp SOMETIME. You bringing the moonshine or am I?

Anyway, I do suspect that she survived (of course, she may have been laying 2 feet from me in that slough and I wouldn't have seen her). Id she did survive, She may have a deflated lung, but there are quite a few deer running around out there with only 1 long.

I was drawn for that hunt as well and didn't make the trip. Just too much going on with family, other hunts coming up and the all-too-familiar too much going on with responsibility to clients which some call work. First, thank you for taking the time to put pen to paper and give us a great narrative. Second, great pictures. Third, it would be indeed a treat to hunt with you. Your words embody the attitude, spirit and respect found in hard-core guys I know and hunt with. Have a great fall, that doe will keep the coyotes fed well!
