Poser,

Since I first proposed having two doe/spike hunts at PI, there has been some criticism of it. I have heard a fair number of comments along the lines of, "why would anyone put in for a hunt like that, especially on an area known for big bucks?" I suspected there were quite a few deer "hunters" like you out there, and it pleases me to no end to have that suspicion verified. I hate that you lost the doe, but I hope you enjoyed the hunt. I know there are a lot of hunters who don't get as excited hunting "just does," but there are others who do, and I believe (my opinion) TWRA should strive to meet the needs of as many different hunters as possible. All of them pay the same amount for a license.

p.s. I enjoyed the story/slide show.

Very cool. I do a lot of hunting on LBL and I can honestly say that you did your homework and put in some tough scouting. Glad to hear you saw a P & Y Buck. Not many people get to see one and not that close if they do.

Congrats on a memorable hunt but sorry to hear you couldn't find your Doe. Thanks for the read as well.

I feel ethically obligated to fully attempt recovery of any game that I shoot.
Being my first visit to PI, I wanted to see and scout the island as much as possible within the context of my hunting situation. Feeling obligated and, even absolutely confident that I would recover the deer on Sunday morning, I gave it my best shot. When I thought of giving up several times on Sunday morning, it also occurred to me that walking out at 9:30 in the morning would ruin the hunts for several people, so why not stay longer, why not keep looking? I had already gone to great lengths to take that deer, why give anything short of my best effort? Additionally, if and when I draw a buck tag there, I'll be dialed in.

Trust me, I'll consider that shot and that tracking job for awhile to come upon any kill situation. Never having been put in that situation (failed recovery/ long range tracking job) , it was probably invaluable to my overal experience. I also got see a part of the island and up-close habitat and deer sign that few, if anybody will ever see -either for lack of motivation or actual accessibility due to water levels.

As I recover from the weekend, I am more motivated than ever. I picked up my bow today and shot a 3 arrow grouping from 30 yards and then put it back in the case. -just had to be sure.
I mean, for no lack of effort, I've already hit my low point, right?
