Your .243 will make her a fine gun! This is a super performing little caliber! Very very accurate with little to no recoil, and with a good bullet its a super performer. I have mine shooting a 100 grn Remington Core Loct and my 2 boys have killed more than their share with it, from 160 lbs field dressed on down, no problem at all with penetration and plenty of shock to do the job. Bullet retention has been very good as well. IMO this is as good a caliber as available for kids, women, or anybody that cant handle a larger caliber gun.

Well I'd have to agree...taking the wife hunting is a bad idea for sure! .243 is one of the most under-rated calibers out there. I've taken deer at 350yds with mine and it killed the HE$# out of 'um! About as humane as you can get...one second eating the next they were dead...end of story!

If anybody thinks that 243 is not a sufficient round then you need to come look in my freezer in november. Its all i ever use just because I started deer hunting with the gun and it just feels at home on my shoulder. Never has let me down

I have one confirmed kill with my .243 that was 550 yards, the owner of the property was my eye witness, after tagging the deer I gave it to him, score was in the low 130's, its one of the best rifles out there if shot placement is correct

.243 is a great gun. My daughter has killed quite a few deer with it out to 240 yrds and I "borrow" it whenever she doesn't hunt with me including using it to kill a 10 pt that field dressed at 180 lbs a few years ago. We haven't lost one yet. We shoot Hornady 100 grain Custom BTSP.

Shoot a good bullet, and place it in the vitals.
95 gr Fusion 85,95,100 gr Partition 85 gr Barnes TSX 90 gr Scirocco
I would love to know if the 243 haters have ever used any of these bullets in a 243.
