I agree with Broadhead, there is nothing like bowhunting and getting that first one. I just got my first one last weekend and I am still on a high about it. I think that there are definitely different levels of hunters as far as what interests you and what keeps your head in the game. I totally understand wanting to hunt with a gun because it does -at first- seem more appealing to do because you tend to have more success. However, now that I have pushed through the bow season of 2 hunting seasons, I now am beginning to understand the real attraction to bowhunting. The things you see and hear that you never would otherwise, the nature and methods of the deer, the weather patterns, etc. But what I suggest for you since you are fed up is to give it a rest for a couple of seasons. Get in all the gun hunting you can get in until you feel like you got enough and need more of a challenge. Then, work your way back into bows. I wouldn't give it up all together, just take a break! hang in there!! and good luck~!~~

That was my initial reaction as well. Its like, what kind of reaction did he expect?
"Oh its ok, man... bowhunting sucks anyway and its a waste of time. Sit on the couch 'til gun season"??

I started bowhunting last year, hunting from the ground. Purchased a good compound. Missed a couple does I shot at. Lost others because I couldn't draw while they were looking in my direction.

Before this season, I traded the compound for a good crossbow. Shoots nice. Opening day I saw five deer, but just slightly out of range at 50 yards. I've been out half a dozen times and have only seen one fawn sice opening day. I saw about 8 does crossing the street as I left though!

I'm so ready to have that smokepole, or my Kimber .308, or my Winchester 94 in my hands. I'm also VERY ready for November to get here.

Last year I bowhunted HARD with no luck. Then, I killed two bucks in less than a week during rifle season. After the second deer, I didn't go back out again. I seriously think that all the sweating and hiking with the bow for 2 months just burned me out. By the time I got a couple deer, I was DONE. Perhaps I would be more motivated later in the season without the bow.

So, I'm thinking of trading my crossbow for a nice smokepole. I might stay out of the woods until things heat up in a few weeks. Last year's rut was AWESOME in my area. I'm just getting sick of wearing myself out to see out-of-range deer every so often.

You are right about the higher temps and alot more work for bowhunting. I think that is why people either love it or its not for them. I don't know anyone who is on the fence about bowhunting. It is definitly a greater challenge than gun hunting. This is why I like it alot. Good luck this year.

I started bow hunting last season and love it. I was fortunate in that I took two deer with my bow last year. Bow hunting requires in depth knowledge of where the deer bed and feed. Catch them between those two places.

I've talked with exclusive gun hunters before who seemed to be under the impression that deer behavior is the same in bow season as it is during the rutting gun season. Why would they know any different if that's all they've ever been exposed to?

Without question, hunting bow season teaches a hunter much about deer behavior.
