I'm going to Illinois for the first time this year and I'm trying to get my gun ready. I have a mossberg 835 with a rifled slug barrel on it. I don't know alot about slugs being that I've never used a slug gun. My question is what slugs or sabots do you recommend me using? Thanks!

Winchester Slugs 1900 fps

That is the slugs I use....and they will do all you need them to do. I killed my first buck this year with my slug gun. And he was out there about 140 yds when I shot him and all he done was roll over. Those things pack a punch.....deer don't like em too much.

With it being a rifled barrel do I get just regular slugs or does it need to be a specific kind of slug for best accuracy?

sabots are best in a rifled barrel, you need to find which 1 your gun likes, take a couple friends or enemys with you to the range & let them have a taste too \:\)

My Mossberg liked the Remington copper solids best. But every gun is different.

My 870 w/ Hastings barrel likes the Remington copper solids...2 3/4 inch.

Prepare to spend a small fortune and get beat up to find the ammo it likes.

I've heard good things about the copper solids as well from a magazine article several months back (F&S or Outdoor Life, can't remember which).

I think practicing with whatever slugs you will use is just as important as the brand. The rifle barrel should give you good results. I would go to Walmart or BassPro and look at their offerings. A name brand will probably serve you well and as stated, practice!

Been hearing some good testing results from Brenneke slugs. Don't have any first hand confirmation tho.
