12 people for 900 acres is the thing I don't like about it. usually you want atleast a 100 acres per person.

another plus to having tight restrictions on bucks is that in a few years you can really begin to tell a difference in the quality of the bucks that are seen. altough it is frustrating for the first couple years

True, but antler restrictions are the WRONG way to stop the harvest of all young bucks but allow the harvest of all older bucks. Simply learning to tell the difference between yearling and 2 1/2s (easily done) is the right way.

believe it or not, that are many that do not care about aging a deer, this is why antler restrictions work so well

the lease that i have been on for the past 5 years have fairly tight restrictions like that too.
its 1200 acres $500 yr at least 8pt out past their ears
some mentioned that they have seen very nice deer with a narrow inside spread.....if its a nice mature 8pt with good mass, but hes jus a basket rack, our guys would not get tore up over, but were in the hatchie bottom, and i have yet to see a basket rack in 5yrs of hunting there the narrow bucks that most of us are talking about seeing i would not consider basket racked.
i have seen several bucks scoring over 130 that had a spread of 15 or less. the one that really sticks out in my mind is the one my neighbor's son killed, he was 16 at the time and that buck was only 12" wide but had 10pts and scored in the 140's. spread as nothing to do with age and little to do with score! mass and tines are what add up.

Absolutely.
Spread is one measurement in the score. The difference between a 18 inch wide rack and a 12 wide inch rack in score is a whopping 6 inches. Mass is a bunch of measurements (depending on number of tines) and those scores are what really add up. Mass is more indicative of age than spread is too. Some bucks live to old age and never get "outside their ears". Personally, although I'm not going to say I don't like wide racks, I also like a big, massive, high and tight rack.

Except they don't work well.

not argueing, just saying, due to the membership structure at Chaney, veteran hunters and sorta rookie hunters, at this point in time, antler restriction is by far the best answer
if I have a new member who is also sorta new to deer hunting, I am not going to restrict this person from shooting the largest deer they have ever seen because they are not able to age the deer
also with many members not even caring about killing a deer, this helps with the veteran hunters who want to kill a mature deer
