Was slow all weekend. Didn't stop by the checking station but didn't hear many shots at all up in area 13. We had 2 does come in on us Sat morning. Another single deer came in about 30 minutes later - son saw it as it ran up the hill stomping and blowing. Had a couple come by us right at dark. This morning had 2 come by us before daylight. Had another run off the ridge we were sitting on but never saw it. Then had another one come in behind us. I saw it as it ran off. Didn't see anything this evening.

Sounds like it wasn't a complete No-See weekend. At least you got to hit the woods and got to at least catch a glimpse of few.
That place always humbles me when I go. It's such a large area.

Seems like there were 39 total checked in when I went by the south welcome station Sunday around noon.

It was very tough for us this weekend. I found a spot that had a lot of fresh tracks at a creek crossing and was the only real fresh sign I could find. We decided to hunt near that crossing and seen 1 doe Sat. morning and had 1 come thru at daylight that could not tell what it was. Both mornings we had deer tracks on top of our boot tracks where they were moving in the dark.I heard 6 shots Sat. morn and never heard anymore til we left around lunch sunday in area 13.

We had a total harvest of 90 deer checked at the South Welcome Station for the 2-day hunt. Not a lot of big or old bucks, but a lot of happy young kids. Go to http://www.LBLHUNTS.myphotoalbum.com to see more photos as they become available. I have a couple of cell phone phone photos of the big 15-pointer that was harvested and Tennessee Todd posted some nice ones of his son with it on this web site.
The 2nd heaviest was a 170 lb 8 pointer. 3rd was 144 lb 8 pointer. The rest were under 125 lbs.
The numbers aren't 'official' until we mesh the data with the TWRA database and compare the data entries and make corrections, but the basic info is: Total= 90; 50 bucks + 40 does. 54 harvested Saturday October 16 and 36 harvested Sunday. Hunt Area Harvests: Area 11=14deer, Area 12=16deer, Area 13=17 deer, Area 14=14 deer, Area 15=20 deer, Area 16=9 deer.
From what I could hear at the check station, most hunters were either seeing multiple deer, or none at all. Many passed up on does the first day, which is a changing theme/strategy for youth hunters who often try shoot the first thing that walks by. The harvest number of 90 is about normal for LBL, which has had ranges from below 60 to over 110 for the TN Youth Hunt. Bucks eating lots of acorns and the drought has reduced the quality of their other food sources, so they are spending a lot of time in the woods, and trails to water sources (mostly old ponds on LBL) are good spots to watch. Most youth hunters on LBL leave Saturday night, and very few stay past the Sunday morning hunt. It was a hot weekend, but the youth hunters still did pretty well!
