I hunted a stand yesterday afternoon that I put up at the end of last year and had a VERY nice 8 and a smaller 6 come in slightly out of bow range. (about 50 yards)
So I went in today and put up a new stand about 2PM. I decided go ahead and hunt it to get a feel for it, not thinking I would see anything given the godawful noise I made putting it up.
About 530 the same two deer came out and the bigger 8 gave me a broadside shot at 30.
I thought it was a good shot, but when I got down I found my arrow with the broadhead broken off and blood only about 1 inch down the arrow shaft.
I followed the deer where he ran across and open field and found blood on the other side where he entered, but nothing after that. All afternoon looking and nothing else.
I guess I must have hit a shoulder, but dangit! Its like the arrow bounced right out. I included a pic of the arrow and a good arrow for comparison.
Any thoughts?

Had the same happen with me a couple times. I actually had a friend kill a biggun I had shot and the broadhead was still in its shoulder two months later, so hopefully your deer will live to see another day.

What kind of broadhead is that?
To be honest, I dont really remember. I bought them last year. This is the first time I have ever hunted with them

Well I think its worth another quick look. I guess you never know but I would just kind of scan the area for the deer maybe check a nearby creek bottom or somewhere there is water. They like to lay in there and heal up. Sounds like you definately got a front shoulder and if you only got that much penetration then I wouldn't think you could fatally wound one. But I wouldn't rule it out until I looked pretty good for him. Good luck!!

Sorry about that.
Not many bows / broadheads can handle a shoulder shot.
Maybe he will make it and you will get another shot at him.

I know how you feel lost one earlier this year and had a clean pass through. I doubt you killed him, but you may as well look for him one more time. If he is laid up wounded you may be able to get close enough for another shot.
