I just did one of the stupidest little things and it cost me the buck I have been hunting on my new little piece of land. I heard the deer sparing a little in the thicket behind me about 15 mins after daylight. I had already seen a small buck but he kept to the thicket to my left and never gave me a shot. I heard a couple deer jump the fence and start down the hill towards me. So I got ready. The first one into my shooting lane was the crooked horned 9 point I have posted pics of. He isn't a monster but he is a shooter to me with my bow so I started to draw back on him when the second buck steps into my lane... It's the big 10 I have only like 2 picks of... Still managing to keep my cool I adjust my aim and start to pull the trigger on the release.. Then both those bucks flinch and side step and the Mack daddy steps out of the thicket into my lane. I have no pictures of this brute yet guys but I've got a 146 inch buck on the wall and a few 130 s in a box and this guy was 150 + inches of bone 20 inches inside or more.. Now I kinda panic... And as I'm crouching just a little to clear the few limbs in the way I graze my day release trigger the the bow goes off.. Arrow huts the ground and skitters away to god knows where and all 3 deer bolt for the hills. Now that being said if they didn't actually see or smell me you think im ok or should I move my stand anyway?

Ouch...that hurts. But it happens and with that sad, give it awhile till you hunt that spot again and I think you will be fine. Good luck with the big boy...

It happens. I know it gives us all sleepless nights, but we'll get them next time! I am sure those bucks hear noises all the time that spook them. They didn't see or smell you, I am sure they will be back.

Atleast you can feel good that you didn't make a marginal shot. This type of stuff happens to everyone if they hunt enough. For all they know a limb fell out of a tree and scared the crap out of them! Good luck!

Hang in there. Hope he (they)come back. Very good point in your post for all of us. Just because you don't have trail cam pics of a brute or a mature deer doesn't mean they aren't there.

I missed a 6 pointer AND a 9 pointer with a muzzleloader, both within 15 minutes!!! Killed them both over the next two weeks in the same spot. You'll get em.
