I normally look at the head{like BSK descrip.} but also a button bucks neck usually appears short and fatter. Most yearling does necks look like a small baseball bat size and momma's look the same but longer!

So, is this a button or a doe?  Doe. Look at the length of the face.
x2. pretty easy to tell if its not a fawn doe

Heck, I know it isn't a "fawn"...but, if you look closely you will see two little nubbins on the head...

If I wasn't 100% sure, I wouldn't shoot. BB's are safe from me. If in doubt, I let it walk. And that pertains to any deer I'm not sure of.

i don't see it and the head is too round to be a button.

When assessing an antlerless deer as to age/sex, don't look for "buttons". Some button bucks have virtually no visible buttons, and some adult does have "knobs" on their skull and hair whorls that look very much like buttons.
Look at the length if the face to assess age, and if the deer is a fawn, don't shoot.
The real tricky part is determining a yearling doe from a fawn. A yearling doe will have a face length longer than a fawn but shorter than an older doe. Basically, they are half-way between the two.

The 6.5+ doe my cousin killed a few weeks back had the "knobs" BSK alluded to. We try to protect BBs and he said when he first walked up to her and saw those "knobs" he was like what the he!!.  They were interesting no doubt, you could feel them and all, but there is no way a hunter could have noticed them at 30 yards with the naked eye. I was sure it was doe because it had the long face, but the little "knobs" did make me thing for half a second.
I don't know why some does grow these skull knobs. Probably a hormone thing.

I wasn't referring to shooting it or not shooting it....I was simply curious about the little knobs and if it was possible it was a button...nothing to do with shooting
