This evening i was watching 5 does that were feeding on white oaks right in front of me. When i heard a very large crashing of brush in the woods about a 100yds away. It stopped for a couple minutes then I heard them crashing through the brush again on the hillside that faced me. I quickly looked to my right and saw two big bodied deer at full speed busting through the brush about 150yds away. They were about 20 yds apart but one right behind the other. I want to say I saw good racks on them but not sure it was so fast. They were certainly BIG bodied and acting like a big buck running off the loser buck.....Regardless it got me FIRED up!!!!

Keep in mind that some of those does they are chasing could very well be button bucks. I have seen it a few times thinking it was a buck chasing a doe, only to see it get closer and realize it was a button.

There is an old saying about the "false" rut. Bowriter can explain that better than I can if he reads this thread. Way to early for actual all out chasing, but one or two doe can go into estrous about this time. Still very exciting to watch regardless.

Just remember that not all yearling bucks are chased off by their mothers. Some doe social groups will contain adult does, their fawns from this year and a few fawns from last year which are now yearlings, both male and female. The yearling bucks will be lowest on the social ladder hence be religated to following at the "end of the line" as the group travels.
I don't know how many times I've heard hunters say they say a yearling buck "chasing" a whole group of does, when what they really witnessed was a doe social grouping running along with the lone male yearling bringing up the tail end of the line. The buck wasn't chasing, he was following the pack.

Young buck feeling his oats. I'll bet the older bucks are off in the shadows watching...laughing their butt off.

Bucks are ready...but the ones who have done this before know its still way too early. Does arent even close. You will start to see more bucks in and around does as the next couple weeks pass.

I gree with you I have seen 2 different 6 points both with a doe and a fawn in both ocasions the bucks were being playful in a manner that the doe wasn't putting up with.

I have to agree with BSK. I have seen a couple of yearlings running with their mom and sisters. When you don't see the young bucks with the does anymore, you better be ready to see some bucks running from ridge to ridge.
