If you did not see my post yesterday, I am trestandless at the moment. The one treestand I have had forever was about 10 years old and very heavey and clunky, but I felt safe up in the tree in it. It was also a gift from my grandmother one Christmas...so I have never been shopping for a treestand. I am trying to get one on a budget (since I had not planned on this purchase right now)...so price is a big factor (I would like to stay around $200 or less).

I plan to run to basspro and get one this Saturday so I can hunt next week. Looking at the BassPro site, for price, the API Hi-Point and the Gorilla Greyback climber are at the low end. The Gorilla Greyback Stealth HX is a step up and looks good for the price, but there is at least one bad review on it. The Summit 180 degree is on sale...it has the the most positive reviews...also the one I am leaning towards, but over what I want to spend by $40 or so after tax.

Anyone use any of these climbers? Aside from price, I have a little fear of heights...so feeling safe will be a factor. Of those four, I think the API and the Summit look safer than the Gorillas.

I am sure everyone has their favorites and their experiences. Any input (or if you have a "write in" suggestions to add to the list that I could easily get this weekend) would be appreciated.

Thanks,

You can't go wrong with the summit. I haven't tried the 180, but I have two other models, and they are great. They are light, easy to carry, attach quickly, very comfortable, and grip well on just about every kind of bark.

That API is what I use. It's a bit heavier than the Summit but the comfort level is awesome. It holds to a tree great as well.

I like the ones they sale at Dicks right around $100 and comfortable its their brand I think. Yo can get them alot of times for $79 on sale. I am a big guy 285lbs and kinda scared of heights as well and am comfortable in them. Had one for 3yrs with no problems and got another this year.

I would say go with whatever brand, but inspect the quality at the store. There are alot of no-name brands that are built like tanks for not alot of dough. They just might creak a little more, but probably not that noticeably. Find a good sturdy one, buy an extra ratchet strap or two and make sure you wear a FAS and have a screw in step or two in your pocket just in case. These coupled with a nice solid tree, you are safe and in business.
