Here is the question I pose. If a deer has disfigured antlers due to an injury will this deer pass on this antler trait or will he pass on the antler trait of what he was like before the injury? The deer is 4 yrs old and up until this year was a typical 8 with good mass height and width. I have watched this deer every season and have let him walk at the end of last year this deer was hit by a car and broke his right front leg this year he has a perfect 4 on one side but the other side has solid mass that looks like a light bulb do I need to remove this deer or let him breed ?

An injury will not change his genetic contribution to the herd.

I didnt really think it would but i was not sure if a trait developed like that would affect it or not.

From what I read, the does are most likely to pass on the genes for antlers.

If you have your arm cut off in an accident, will your children be born with only one arm?
Injuries don't change your genetic make-up.
