Watching yet another hunting show and heard a little tid bit on aging that I wondered about. The guy noticed an older buck, and said it was at least 6 yrs old, and then commented on the length of the coloration of the tarsal gland area down the back legs. Any correlation that you know of between the age of a buck and the length of the coloration of the tarsal gland area down the back leg?

The oldest bucks usually have the heaviest staining of the tarsals, often with the staining running down the inside of the leg. But that's not an absolute.
