Was watching hunting shows this morning and several of the "experts" said if you hunt in the same spot more than once deer will nail you even if you do everything required to protect your scent. I do not have a lot of property to hunt so hearing stuff like this is depressing. I have seen deer this year but have yet to have a shot. At some point I have to hunt my stands more than once....

First of all, don't watch those shows on tv. I've killed deer on as many as 3 or 4 consecitive days out of the same stand. Just get in there and hunt. You can't eliminate all of your scent you can just play the wind. Have stands set up to use depending on which way it's blowing and hunt the appropriate one. Good luck.

Just hunt and don't worry bout what the "PROS" say. On the next part of the show they will be trying to sell you some kind of scent eliminator bs that will make you a better hunter to. LMAO

Simple. move trees. Sometimes 20-30 yds makes a big difference.
Last year a buddy killed a nice 11pt out of a stand 40 yds from a heavily hunted ladder stand. The buck was skirting a thick patch behind the ladder in a little gully. He could go by the ladder and scent check to see if anyone was there without being seen. Too bad for him my buddy was down wind and caught him sneaking by.
I hunted that same spot once during bow this year and 4 does came in looped around down wind of the ladder and stood there sniffing and eyeballing it before passing an opening by the stand. They knew exactly where it was even though nobody has been in the stand since MZ of last year.

As fishboy1 pointed out, just move a little. The farther the better, but 50 yards will make a difference.

I have 2 spots already picked that I want to move my climbers too. I would have moved them already but I have taken off days to hunt during the MZ season and do not want to ruin those spots. I have a thicket I can hunt, but I do not want to stomp around in there and ruin the gun hunts. I feel like I need seperate properties to bow hunt and gun.
So my next question is is it even worth hunting a ladder stand unless during gun when you can get them before they wind you. I have killed several deer out of my ladder stand...but like you said they know where it is?

Those experts not only don't know jack, they can't spell it. I know of as many as six killed in five days from the same stand and three were killed in one day. I have also missed a nice buck at 20 yards from a stand in the morning at killed him from the same stand in the same spot the next morning. I suggest you watch Idiot Housewives From New Jersey. It is much more educational.

I've watched many many hunting shows where they talked about it being the third or fourth day in a row hunting the same stand....
Unless you have bad approach habits, I see no reason why you can't hunt a stand , at least, twice a week.....maybe more if you have favorable winds.....
Now if you bust deer everytime that you go in or out and have bad wind, then NO, I would wait a while before going back....

jdyer,
The first and most important question is, exactly what type of deer/buck are you after? If a good 2 1/2 year-old buck is your goal, then perhaps you are worrying too much. Without question, when it comes to MATURE bucks, over-hunting a stand is a major problem. How often an area has been hunted in the past is one of THE critical factors to success on mature bucks. However, that's because bucks don't get mature without learning to pattern hunters. Younger, less educated bucks are a different story.
We avoid over-pressuring stands by puting up a lot of ladder stands. Currently, we're at one stand for every 12 acres on a fairly sizeable property. With that many stands, we can hunt different stands over a long period of time without pressuring any one stand. We also move at least 1/3 of the stands to new locations each year to have "fresh" areas to hunt. All that said, we also have some ladders up that have been in place for almost a decade. We don't move those ladders because they produce year after year. Any number of does and 2 1/2 year-old bucks have been killed from those stands. However, the number of MATURE bucks that are seen/killed from those stands is virtually zero. THAT'S the difference between those who say how many times a stand has been hunted doesn't matter and those who consistently kill mature buck and say it does matter. For mature bucks, it does matter. For seeing any deer, or bucks up to at least 2 1/2, it doesn't matter. Stand locations will exit on every property that produce doe and younger bucks sightings year after year and even day after day.
Again, it all comes down to what you are trying to see and kill.
