keep in mind you're losing a minute or two of daylight on both ends, then that daylight savings thing really screws your time again.
that being said, I have in the last few seasons started going just when there is enough light not to have to use a flashlight. I think the flashlight is questionable even if you're on the green lens bandwagon. I still think a flashlight sneaking through through the woods has got some effect on a deer and their association with something not being copacetic.
I used to trek to my stand a 30-45 minutes before any light...I'd be up the tree and have to wait 30 minutes before I could see my hand in front of my face.
I quit all that.
now, public land...I'd have a strobe light on my head on the way to my stand for sure.
as for evenings....right now, I can go in at 4pm and still do fine. But, it's basically 1/4 mile out the back door, up the hill. Prefer about 2 when the time changes. At that point, deer have a good chance of moving all day come November.

I like to be there minimum 1 hour before 1st light. When hunting close to bedding areas, 1.5- 2 hours before 1st light. For afternoon hunts, I shoot for 2.30.
