If you are on your stand in a fairly thick area (not over
looking a food plot), and you see a huge rack move and you see
a spot on or near the shoulder to shoot...what do you do?

Do you wait for him to stop, try to zero in on his neck to judge
his age, try to see if he has x number of points. All of the
sudden the deer stops with only one small pocket to shoot thru.
His shoulder is exposed in that small pocket, but you still
don't know all the above varibles.

Do you shoot or do let him pass, hoping you will get a better
look at him later?

Well I would have to get a better look at him. I don't like to take any deer that aren't atleast 3.5 yrs old even if they do have a nice set of horns. But just depends on the situation really. If I thought he was old enough I would let her fly.

I would shoot. I don't get alot of time anymore and enjoy what time I have. A nice rack...even a smaller rack would be down. I am lucky to even get one buck a year...no time.

If I see a huge rack I either hit rewind on my TV or I say hello.

I'd shoot. And that's how most of my set ups are. You can only see racks and ears moving through on the thickets I have in play. You pray that you get a crosshair on a neck through an opening but if not, that's just the way it goes. You have to wait him out till next time, if you get a next time.

hunting these types of areas are not for the casual wildlife observer that wants to catalog the throat patch and compare game cam pics before pulling the trigger.

Big rack, big weeds. I'm not thinking about 2.5 y.o. vs 3.5 y.o. That is absurd in my deer hunting opinion. Those guys come up the check-in with an empty tailgate.

btw, here's the difference between the guy that asked about his .223. While there's an old argument about "brush guns", etc...we've all heard it. I'll be hunting these areas with a high energy, large diameter, heavy bullet.
