I use to be anti ATV when it came to huting purposes, but my views have changed. They definitely have a place in the deer woods and if you use the old noggin you can be very successful. I hunt in some fairly rugged terrain and it's not that I can't walk it, believe me I've done and still do my fair share of walking and I've hauled quartered deer out on my back, but the aid of an ATV has opened new places for me to hunt that otherwise would be impracticle to try to walk all the way in and walk all the way out. When I hauled my first buck out of the mountains with it, I was amazed at the ease of getting a deer out of the woods. A job that would usually be about 5 or more hours turned into 1. Overall my ATV has made my hunting more enjoyable and that's what it all about.

I leave mine at home. I don't believe they spook young deer too badly but I know they spook mature books and i have benefitted from the laziness of other hunters on neighboring properties. They do cause erosion, kill grass if ridden in a heavy frost and ruin the natural serenity of the outdoor environment in my opinion. They also close a lot of properties to hunting, that is a fact. I read a quote in petersons hunting magazine, years back and I believe it wholeheartedly, " a deer worth shootin is a deer worth draggin". The drag is part of the hunt.

I haven't read the whole post but I have heard soooooooo many people say they will get used to them!?

Okay they might in disney world imo

I have friends with high fences and they thought the same. If you crank a 4wheeler within a mile of those deer they will clear the field.

I've also heard the deer will get used to them on a working farm.

We have a working farm; farm hands are constantly on an atv or in a utv.

There is nothing more than the deer hate on our place than an atv, besides a dog!

They can not stand them. We even used to have a race track next door to practice for mx and xc and now I know why my fellow hunters hated us. The deer despise atv's. That is why I have made special efforts this year to keep our race squad off the neighboring land. I like those guys and respect them, knowing what I know now I would be completely disrespectful to ride there.

hunt somewhere like windrock and you will see. there is 4wheeler traffic constantly. the deer pay them very little attention.

I know several hunters that have died of heart attacks while trying to drag a deer. Be macho if you want, but I carry mine out on an atv now. One day some of you will get bad knees like us older guys, and change your tune.

i'm gonna have to disagree with you there.

i use 4-wheeler alot and kill alot of deer EVEN mature ones, like i said earlier, i can see my 4-wheeler from one of my favorite stands and can't tell you how many deer i have seen and shot that were standing within a few yards of it.

i have rode right past deer before on my wheeler and they just stop and look. i know for a fact that those same deer would have ran off if i would have been on foot.

Well... you don't know it for a fact, but you can make a empirical speculation.
