I usually don't crank mine up until I get to where I am going to park. But I sure get sweaty pushing it over logs.

I have a lot of experience and study on this subject. Here's my take:
First, unlike many hunters would have you believe, deer aren't spooked by ALL odors that they smell in the woods. Nor are they spooked by all 'unnatural' odors they smell. They ARE spooked by HUMAN odors that they smell, because 'human' odors equal danger. The smell of motor equipment, gasoline and tire rubber, especially if there is a roadway or highway in the area, doesn't seem to freak them out...at least where I hunt. I've seen them just keep feeding when a vehicle or ATV goes by many, many times. Its when the vehicle stops that they go on high alert. This wouldn't apply if you were hunting somewhere that was a LONG way from the nearest road and the deer had never seen or smelled a vehicle before. But I've not found too many of those area here in TN.
I park 150 yards or so from where I set up a stand or groundblind. I also have a full camo ATV cover that I wash in scent-killing detergent and scent killing spray that goes over the Honda Foreman and captures most of the odors inside of it. These covers can be found for $20-40. I mostly use that cover when it's raining so I don't get 'wet butt' when I drive out.
The next point is this: the traveling ATV is NOT going to spook a deer that's not there.
I hunt corridors, funnels, travelways, scrape/rub lines, feeding areas, and other paths of deer travel. I don't believe that I've ever killed a deer that was bedded down and got up when he heard me coming (walking or riding the ATV) on the primary approach to the stand. I get in the stand, and the deer come walking by. Sometimes in 10 minutes after I get in the stand, sometimes after 5 hours of getting in the stand. Either way, the deer are moving through when I shoot them. They aren't there when I drive in...or if there are any there, they've moved on and I'm killing the others that come by for a stroll.
The exception is late season. Late season hunts when they've moved into the thickets, and I'm hunting them with a .44 magnum revolver because it's too thick to get a rifle in there, I keep the ATV and everything else FAR away from those spots. By then, the deer are so jumpy that even a raindrop makes them bolt. But any other time of the season the ATV doesn't seem to make a difference.
The next, and probably MOST important point about hunting with an ATV is this: do yourself and other hunters a favor...get a 'silencer' muffler for your ATV. I bought a Silent Benz (google it) for my Honda for about $150, and it cuts the noise of my ATV down to almost just the sound of the motor turning. Seriously. In even the slightest breeze you can not hear my ATV 50 feet away when it's running. With no breeze you can't hear it running 150 feet away. Its the next best thing to using an electric ATV or UTV. It also won't bother other hunters that may have slipped into the area that you are using because you are running almost silent. If they are 200 feet away they won't even know you were there. You can go to the manufacturers websites of those types of mufflers and many of them have soundfiles that you can listen to the difference between a silencer muffler and a non-silenced ATV.
I don't always take the ATV with me because there's something primal and satisfying about doing a hunt the hard way...walking in and hauling out the kill by hand. That's an experience in and of itself that everyone should have.
But on those trips where it's a mile or more walk in to the hunting site, the ATV allows me more hunting time because it cuts down on my walk-in time. And we could ALL use more time on the stand.
Just my experiences.

Deer will pattern human travel no matter the way. I personally dont like riding close to where i am hunting if avoidable but i have several stands that are within 150 yards of the log road and one of them has produced 4 shooter bucks and several more that were borderline which i passed on. I think it depends on where and other circumstances. I think the more human travel you place in a given area the more you restrict "big" buck movement somehow.

I always walk in on morning hunts. My walk is usually 30-40 minutes long (taking it easy). Evening hunts, I almost always ride my 4-wheeler in the woods. The property I hunt is almost straight up and down hollers. I always ease into the woods just putting around. (it almost sounds like the land owners tractor, unless I am giving it heck). When I get to a point on the roadway where I can coast down the hill, I always turn it off and coast til it stops rolling, then I get off and walk the rest of the way in. (200 yards or so).

I never said or insinuated you or anyone else was any of those things. If you took it that way, that is your own interpretation.
You accused me of equating my circumstances with those of others.
Pursue something else, Pursuit Hunter.
The point I was making is that very, very few people really NEED an ATV. If you are crippled or aged you DO need one and that's fine. I may need one myself someday. If you are obese or weak you do NOT need one for it only perpetuates those conditions.

Look, I'm really not interested in perpetuating this discussion, but for the record, the circumstances I was referring to had nothing to do with your personal makeup, or even you at all. I was talking about the size and/or topography of the area where one hunts. If someone can access all of the property he wants to hunt by foot, then clearly he doesn't need an ATV. Some parcels of land don't lend themselves to that and a four wheeler is a necessity if one is going to access all of it.
And with that, I'll leave you to your inconsistencies, sweeping generalizations, and personal attacks.
