I have always been one to walk from my truck to my stand no matter the distance. Because I am just tired of doing this and getting lazier with age. I have decided to start using my 4-wheeler for getting closer to my stand instead of just retrieveing the deer. How much does a ATV spook the deer and how close can I get to my stand with it in yalls oppinion.

Now that it is running, 50-75 yards. Never seen it spook a deer yet. Have killed a couple that were standing within 10 yards of it.

I honestly think that walking in may spook them worst than zooming by on a 4-wheeler

When I do use it to travel to my hunting spot, I usually leave it about 100-125 yds away. Mostly it stays on the trailer till I need to retrieve a deer nowadays. ;\) Oh, and I don't have to walk over 1/4" mile at the most to any of my stands, small piece of property. \:\)

There is only one place to park where I hunt, and it puts my vehicle about 100 yards from my stand. Actually that's how far I am from the road too.

I kill my limit most every year.

A friend of mine once parked his vehicle where I hunt, got out of his truck, and shot an 8 pointer bedded up on the bank overlooking his vehicle. It was literally about 60ft from his truck

Depends on the wind and the travel route that I expect (guess) the deer will be taking to get to my hunting spot. I try to park it in a location where the deer won't get downwind of it or see it. Usually works.

Also, If you're new to using a four wheeler. I'd recommend not doing anything from your ATV to harrass the deer. Don't shoot at them. Don't chase them. Don't yell to your hunting buddy, "hey, look at that deer!" The deer on my property are accustomed to me riding around to the point that I can often ride up to within 50 yards or so, cut off the engine, and watch them (if I stay motionless and downwind).

I really think it depends on how many vehicles they see and hear on a normal basis. A dirt road runs through my place and highway traffic can be heard from another place on my property. I have driven my 4 wheeler under the stand before and it would reak of gasoline and I still saw a few deer. I think parking it a little distance away from your stand (as long as it's not blatantly out in the open) is fine.

Some people are over the top thinking that turning your 4 wheeler on will scare deer away for miles. That's bs.
