The original post stated "I didn't take a picture of the trees, but they were small (maybe 8" diameter) with a semi rough bark and are growing right in the middle of a natural drainage ditch in the middle of the woods."
Although the coloration of the persimmons could be misleading, the quote above further leads me to believe persimmon. No mention of vines anywhere.

Nope. They aren't muscadines. Although they do look more like a muscadine than a persimmon (to me anyway) they did come from a tree...

Im with you. they look more like muscadines then persimmon. I have never seen a persimmon that color but Im not saying there is not any
