Been sayin'that for years. All these companies have done an excellent job of marketing all those scent killer sprays, shampoo, laundry detergent, even toothpaste and chewing gum for gosh sakes! \:o and people buy it! You can buy all that stuff, bathe in it, wash your clothes in it, spray your clothes, eat it and chew it, and who knows, it might offer SOME advantage. However, if the wind isn't right, you will be busted. I dont care what it is, it cannot possibly cover all scent. You gotta remember, you are in their house!! If someone came in your bedroom, and cut the nastiest, greenest, most putrid disgusting explosion of flatulence in the world, and you walked in, you may not see them, but you know they are either there, or have been. ;\) Dont matter if they did spray Lysol, Refresh or Pine scented poot smash, you will know something is up.

So do the deer.

I try to fart as much as possible. Seems to work for me. I don't see more deer but I sure hunt a lot more comfortably.

That is the best analogy I have ever seen on this topic. This needs to be archived. \:D \:D \:D

The single most important thing is wind direction and using it to your advantage.....
keep your clothes as scent free as possible to prevent further issues, i spray mine with "ordernix"...a scent control product used in morgues that kills odors very well, i spray the very bottoms of my boots with coon urine, or doe urine or dominant buck urine and this many times calms the deer rather than spooking them all though i have had failures,....fewer than successes.

The point of scent-reduction is not to be scent-free, it is to reduce your scent, and reduced scent can be the difference between being smelled and being busted. When your busted the deer snorts and blasts off, snorting all the way to alerting other deer to potential danger. When you're smelled, a deer will stop and stick its nose in the air trying to get better wiff of whatever it is they are smelling. Sometimes they will eventually turn around and walk back they way they came and other times they will continue on their way but in a more alerted state. But either of those options provide shooting opportunities and other deer are not alerted.

Whether a deer runs or just becomes alerted is based on the intensity of what they smell. Is the potential danger close or far away? The lower the strength of your scent, the more chances you fool the deer into thinking you are far away.

John...Makes total sense...try to FRY the olfactory senses of a deer with an overwhelming ppm of methane should confuse them at least long enough for a shot
