Im disgusted,I've hunted 7 times since season has opened and put right at 26-27 hrs on stand and have only seen 1 deer from my stand that was over 100yds away..I get it,there are loads of acorns, okay,on the 104 acre property I hunt,it is a 10yr old clear cut, very few oaks..Except for 1 hollar, its full of mature oaks thats loaded with acorns..Bingo!!! You think thats where to hunt...WRONG! I've hunted it a few times already and never seen the first deer there.
I don't understand im getting loads of trail cam pics, but not seeing any deer,im also seeing alot of deer tracks..Im not doing anything different than last year. Hopefully my luck will turn around this weekend, when I start hunting the new 50 acre tract I got permission to hunt..I put a ladder stand up today there and brushed it in,gonna hunt it saturday evening..Im gonna have to do something,at this rate,I'll give up hunting by the middle of OCT...LOL THanks for reading my complaining!!!

I think the action should pick up over the next few days. The weather is about to get right.

I'd blame it on the weather. This big front has things messed up.

Strap on your boots and go scouting. Find that one tree with fresh feeding sign and hunt there.

I agree that the moon and weather have things all messed up. I think th 90 degree to 70 degree instantanious change did not help. I believe it will get better.

Blame it on the moon, wish on the moon, whatever... When you get tired of that, go figure out where they're feeding and start killing some deer.

I hunted this morning 3 hrs and this afternoon 3.4 hrs.....2 locations.....0 deer.
Where I'm hunting sounds similar to yours. It was mostly clear cut 12-15 yrs ago and thick as can be other than a couple hollers that are slam full of mature oaks. I walked a little ditch this morning after I hunted and found a nice little persimmon tree with sign all around it. This afternoon I was waiting for one to walk out any minute and nothing. It's just hunting

Wait and the deer will change pattern eventually. And also remember, the rut changes all the rules. Place may be a dud right now but if you have does on the property, bucks will be there at some point and push them around any time of the day.

Im having some trouble over there myself. My only help is that all of my 55 acres are the most mature oaks around so the deer are hanging around in there, just not moving much, because there are acorns literally everywhere! Ive seen 3 in 3 hunts, 2 does and a very nice 8 point that I really didnt expect to see.

The property im huntin on has acorns under every dang oak tree so its a challenge to know where the deer will feed on them. I do have a pond that has some mature hardwood on one side that im seeing alot of fresh sign around. I took a shot at a doe there last night at about 6:30. I managed to nail a tree branch!

Thats why they call it hunting and not killing. Hang in there, if I tallied up the hours I've logged on a stand not seeing deer and compared it to the hours of seeing deer.I'd say its easy that 3/4 of that time would lean toward the not.
It's that 1/4 that makes it all worth it.

Remember to try not get burned out on hunting this time of year. It's difficult hunting unless you locate the food source they are eating. For several years I hunted SO hard during early bow season with limited succes that I was burned out by the time rifle season rolled around. Of course during rifle season they are MUCH easier to kill than in early bow season because of the rut, limited food sources, less foliage on the trees, etc. This time of year it takes about as much 'scouting time' as you'll spend 'hunting time' to find that one tree or that one field that they are feeding from. And remember that the tree they are under today might change tomorrow. Especially if they figure out you've been there (and they will)... Pace yourself and don't get discouraged or burned out early season.
