I just got permission to hunt on 80+ acres in Cheatham Co. Yesterday, I went out scouting. I saw tracks of does along creek/drainage areas but not a single buck. There are two spots that have white oak and persimmon trees withing 20 feet of each other. I saw game trails in/out of the area but honestly, can't tell if they are deer or not. I can't find any feces, rubs, scrapes but didn't really want to tromp through too much since the season has begun.
The land is 1/2 pasture 1/2 hardwood and butts up to a creek. There is one overgrown 2 acre pasture (3-4ft tall grass/weeds) that butts to the edge of hardwoods. The rest are cut. The hardwoods are on a hillside (about 25 acres).
Questions-
Obvioulsy there are deer there- I am very familiar with the area and have seen deer from time to time- even an occasional buck. And besides a farmer that runs cattle in the pastures of this area there is little human action going on there.
So where are the bucks, in your opinion? Should I put a stand up at these areas or a trail cam first? I'd have to purchase both as all my stands are already elsewhere.

I did not see deer. I was there at noon to 2pm. The tracks were fresh in one area for sure (24hr). The land owners daughter walks (exercises) several times a week there and says she sees deer occassionally.

if you didn't actually see the deer, how do you know there are no bucks? tracks are tracks. the only way to tell the difference between doe and buck tracks is to actually see the deer making them.

If there are does there, there will be bucks there. That's a promise!

Where there are does, buck will show up. I have about the same condition as you I have seen several does around. I know there will be bucks showing up soon enough.

Several times a week the farmers daughter is walking around the property? I hope that doesn't mess up your hunting.......on the other hand.....depending on your marital status, orientation, and the farmers daughter, you could be in luck.

Id say you may be seeing buck tracks as well and just not able to tell. Have you seen any rubs on small(1-2") cedars? Here in the next few weeks I think we will all start seeing more buck activity.

I'll put it differently, I have seen small tracks.
I can't find a rub anywhere! Not even an old one.
The girl is moving so the walks will soon stop. And although I'm married she ISN'T the farmers daughter you'd be thinking of (The farmer is prettier)!!!!
