You will really enjoy playing with the data over time boweye91.
I would also suggest keeping track of adult does versus fawns. That will give you an idea of your fawn recruitment rate (fawn production and survival) which can be a very important number.

boweye91,
If you think your data is over-kill, here's the data set I keep:
Hunt Data HUNTS database (one record for each hunt):
Date AM or PM hunt Hunter’s name Property Grid (we lay a grid down over a map of our hunting property for “spatial” data analysis purposes) Stand (a stand number) Weapon carried Time on stand Time off stand (not only for calculating hours hunted but for analyzing deer sighting rates by time of day)
SIGHTINGS database (one record for each deer “event”—an event being one or more deer observed together):
Date Hunter Time of sighting Total number of deer Number of antlered bucks Number of adult does Number of fawns Number of unidentifiable-age antlerless deer Number of unidentifiable deer Observed estrus chase (Y/N)? (A “flag” for calculating peak estrus chase dates over time) Legal deer in weapon range (Y/N)? (a “flag” for calculating how often hunters have the legitimate opportunity to harvest a legal deer by weapon type) Results (for those sightings involving legal deer in range of the weapon: what happened? Possible responses are: Passed the opportunity, shot at and missed the deer, killed the deer, shot at and hit the deer but did not recover the deer, or could not get off a shot (wanted to take the shot opportunity but couldn’t get a shot)) Shot distance
BUCK database (for each buck observed)
Date Hunter Time of sighting (to link back to the SIGHTINGS database) Antler points Estimated age Estimated gross antler score Buck identification number (we photo census our deer herd each year and give each known buck a unique identification number--we record these in our sightings for calculating what percent of photo-identified bucks are observed by hunters, per age-class. VERY interesting data!)
WEATHER database (for each day hunted)
Date AM or PM hunt Conditions (any precipitation and the type of precipitation; i.e. light continuous rain, drizzle, snow showers, etc.) Barometric pressure and trend Wind direction Wind speed Cloud cover (clear, partly cloudy, or cloudy) Morning low temperature Afternoon high temperature Percent of the moon’s face illuminated Moon Waxing or Waning
HARVEST database
Date Hunter Observation # (link to SIGHTINGS and/or BUCK database) Sex Age Live weight Dressed Weight
(for bucks) Antler points Antler inside spread Antler outside spread Left basal circumference Right basal circumference Left Beam Length Right beam length Gross antler score
(for does) Lactation (Y/N)?

The number of different trend graphs that can be produced from that data is limitless.
VERY interesting data...

I keep a log of every hunt. I have been doing if for several years. I keep each year in a seperate binder. I really like looking back through them. Enjoy.
