I've killed alot of good bucks in the evenings, but I always seem to get covered up with deer at dusk. My problem being leaving the stand and not getting busted. When you leave in the morning around 10 or 11 everythings gone to bed for the afternooon so you can slip out undetected. Tonight I had 12 does that I could count before pitch black. I sat in the stand untill 8 HOPEING THEY WOULD LEAVE and of course when I got down it turned into a blowing stampede! I am not hunting bedding areas either. I am hunting 2 white oaks that would take 3 adults to wrap their arms around the trunk and touch hands...What do you guys do to escape???? Any good tricks???

Not much you can do. Had a doe watch me climb down tonight. Saw eyeballs reflecting back from about 20 yards away when I got down to the ground.

I have the same problem in the evenings at one of my stands. I've had luck using a green light when leaving. The deer seem to just watch and not go crazy snorting. Even in the mornings they have let me walk right up on them before they run off.

I use the green light to and I agree it works great. You can see a lot more with it and it doesn't bother the deer. Still can't get out though without getting busted. Leaves are crunchy and something always catches or snags on a briar. Sometimes just the boots coming down the ladder even when trying to be as quiet as possible...

Good idea but they come from about every direction to these 2 white oaks. The only way I can cover them is to split them. The property isn't very large either....

In my opinion, you can't afford to to be spooking deer when you come out of your stand or blind at night. Perhaps this means you wait them out or hunt entrances to feeding areas. If there are 2 entrances, then you could very well see 50% less deer, but you won't spook any deer at all. Its a tactical trade off that, while 1/2 as exciting per individual hunt, more beneficial over a plane of time.

A great way to beat this problem, if you have someone who can do it for you, is to have someone drive in after hunting time has ended and pick you up. We do this a lot. The deer will leave the area when the vehicle drives up, but they will not spook from a vehicle like they will from seeing you climb down out of a tree.
