I've never noticed this before but this weekend it really appeared as if deer would disappear when the squirrels came out... I know there not exactly best friends but will deer go out of there way to avoid them? Should you pack it up if you have several around you?

No sir, I have had both feeding within feet of each other dozens upon dozens of times over the years. Once they have passed their initial greetings of barking from the squirrels and dirty looks from the deer, they tolerate each other just fine. I did see a BB play and chase a squirrel all over a ridge one morning, they had a ball!

I agree with AKA. I would add one thing though. If a squirrel is by you causing a ruckus, Don't think that gives you liberty to move around and cause one too. Something is probably just out of your sight range trying to see what is causing that ruckus. Don't let yourself be what they spot.

Seems like the deer I've killed the past 2 years were proceeded by a squirrel barking it's head off! Kind of think of them as Squirrel-dar!!

I may be way off base but I've always gone with the theory that all kinds of game get active at the same time. If I dont see a lot of activity by any animals, squirrels, birds etc I dont expect to see any deer either. The times when I have seen the most deer have always been when the other animals are active also.

I have seen the exact opposite over the years. When the squirrels start working, so do the deer. But truth is, I never gave it a lot of thought.

Probaly something I picked up from my grandfather 30 years ago when fishing. If we did not see any activity from birds or other wildlife he would always say the fishing would not be any good either. I know one thing the, the forest was awful quiet on Saturday and I did not see any deer either.
