I'm all for the online check in but does anyone else think it may endorse poaching!? A few years ago when I would check in a deer the check in station would even go look at my entry and exit wounds.... So would the butcher! Now no one else ever even has to see your deer if you don't want them to. They could be shot with a cannon or a bb gun and no one would know the difference... This online check in thing a little too out of touch to maintain any kind of order?

I have checked quite a few deer in at different places where the attendant didn't go and look to see what was in the truck or to even make sure that I was being honest about the sex of the deer. Does it make it easier to poach I don't think so if they are going to do it then they are. Before the online check-in started I feel the poachers would just check the animal in the next morning and say they shot it late the evening before and let it lay overnite or couldn't find it till daylight. I guess it could push someone over the edge that normally wouldn't do it if they pondered over it a while and thought they could get by with it. I'm sorry your question was endorse and I think no it doesn't endorse it.

If you poached it why would you bother checking it out anyway?

Tuche'... Endorsing may have not been the word I was looking for. Making it simple and easy not to get busted made for a long title

LMAO, not at all. The type check system in place is not going to affect poachers at all. Especially with the type we have had in place for 25 years, where you could go to the 7-11 mart and be lucky if you didnt have to fill out the paperwork or enter the info in the real system yourself. Looking at an actual kill has been out of the question for many many years all across the state at check stations I have used. Poachers will do so regardless. The type check in required is the last thing they have to worry about!

Growing up hunting in Illinois, I loved taking deer to the check station. They always had college students out there that would check the teeth of the deer to age it as well as weigh them. Of course they would ask if you saw turkey's and/or bobcats.
If check in stations aren't going to put that effort in, I would rather not deal with them. The only time someone actually checked my deer in TN was opening of Muzzleloader season in Meigs County last year. The TWRA was out there checking deer in.
