Owning my own lawn and landscape business, I enjoy the privilege of being able to spend the majority of my time outdoors. I spend many hours traveling through some of the best deer country in middle TN. Two years ago, I had one "loop" that netted 17 buck sightings one September evening, but would average 8-10 on any given day. This being just one of several deer "loops" I would frequent. I have always compared my deer "loop" sightings to my own trail cam pics and deer sightings on the farms I hunt, noting daylight activity and frequency of sightings. Based on both "loop" and trail cam pics, I don't remember a year with fewer deer sightings, bucks in particular. Sign on the farms I hunt also seems to be at an all time low. This seems to be on par with other hunters in my area. I have enjoyed several years of outstanding hunting, but I fear the worse this season. I see tough hunting ahead!

Last year i didn't see my first rack buck until the end of October and it was a 4 pt.I also didn't see any deer opening weekend, but the weather sucked. This year i have seen 7 deer. 2 spikes, a 4 pt, a 6 pt, and two 8 pts, plus one doe. I Can't figure out why, but i am guessing it is because i found some real out of the way places and then found dropping oak trees, right next to thickets. I haven't got a shot yet, but had some close encounters and chose not to force the shots. Figure it is still early yet.

I went to Laurel Hill WMA last weekend and saw nothing but in one area where the chestnut oaks and chinqapins were fallig i did see some sign......not enough to go back..... went to our lease 12 miles from there and found quiet a few of the same type oaks falling and even some white oaks and plenty of sign! saw a fawn and three shooter does but couldnt get them in range so i passed. one was a fat heifer for sure that i would have love to have stuck!... better luck next time.

Its early boys. I see the same thing every year with good acorn drops. Give it a few weeks and things will look up.

I "predict" about the first few days of November, there will be several great bucks killed. After that, thru December, I predict many more "great" bucks will be killed in Tennessee.
The trend will continue.
