i had the privlidge of watching my first ever tn elk today, a 2x3 with velvet hanging off from his antlers. he came in around 1 p.m. and was around til i had to climb down and run him off. however he was very skinny for his size. now i was looking at a post that was debating whether you could pee (no, i'm not a tree top wizzer) and spit dip from your stand, and here is what i saw first hand... this elk walked right under my stand and sniffed the place where i had been spitting for the past 11 hrs. and not just sniffed, he hung around to the point where i thought he would eat the stuff. from my observation i feel safe to say that its ok to spit away

I just spit between my feet. I think there is to much movement using a spit bottle.
