Anyhone hunt Shelby Forest WMA?

Has anyone hunted Shelby Forest? It's 13,000 acres, so I figure there ought to be at least a couple deer out there. What did you think of it?
Also, I noticed that the TN Hunting Guide says that you have to register and get a park permit before hunting. Does anyone know if you can do that the day before or are they open real early or what?

I think you can get the permit the day before, I worked out there for a short period of time. Their are some deer taken but it gets a descent amount of pressure. Plenty of land though, so you just have to be prepared to walk to get away from the crowds.

Cool. Thanks. I tried to call out there, but couldn't get anyone on the phone. I figured it got some pressure. I think I might try it on a Monday or Wednesday to try to avoid some of the crowd.

Stop by the visitor's station and register, there's nothing to it. Basically it's just a precaution should something happen...like you getting lost, falling from a stand, etc.
Yes, this place gets a lot of pressure. It's a lot of land to cover as well. You have to get away from all the other hunters. And take a thermacell with you. Those skeeters are TOUGH.

Yeah, I remember fishing out there when I was a kid and the skeeters were ridiculous and freakin' huge.
