well guys i have been really ecxited about hunting this year! i have done food plots, move stands, put news up, put salt lics out, just been crazy all year about it. and the the bad luck came. i have 60 acres in sumner co i lease, i have 67 acre in robertson co i lease, and then a have 75 acres in east tn in dekalb co i lease. a month ago my dekald co property owner let me know he was having his property logged and it would be done till end of oct. i was bummed. i even had to move trees stand bc they want the trees. but i tried to keep head up since i have the other property. well it gets worse. the 60 acre i have leased in sumner co was timmed to be paid again. i went to land owner to pay him and he informed me that he lease it to another person for 100 more! a 100 more, i would have paid that. so i was mad, but what can you do. he never even called me. so know im like well atleast i still got the one place. but yesterday i get a call from land owner to tell me that he is doing a select cut for the next couple of weeks. i couldnt believe it. this is my honey hole, the place ive been watching deer and waiting for opening weekend. i told him i understand and that thanks for letting me know. and then the greatest news i thing i ever heard. he said since im messing you lease up, im going to give you 120 acres to hunt right down the road. he said its full of deer and there eating my crops. its has corn and turnip greens every where. i about dropped the phone. i was so excited i couldnt hardly talk. he said he wasnt going to lease it to me bc he allows 2 other people to hunt it also. the only bad part. but i hope to meet them and hopefully there good sportsman and everything will work out. so after all the bad luck, finally something good! so i back at the scouting game, but ya'll wish me luck and remember that sometimes good things do happen!

another reason why i refuse to pay for a lease.

Hang in there H07 sounds like it may actually get better for you! I guarantee you wont sit in the woods for a year without seeing a deer if your leasing good ground, or for that matter hunting smart on public ground!! Good luck!

around here, if you dont lease the land, you dont have a place to hunt. unless it public land. and i use to hunt public land all the time and finally decided i had to pay the money. it does stink that land owners want just give permision to hunt anymore. but who can blame them. money is money. but i will say that not all land owners are like that, but i have ran into a few that has already gave people permission to hunt and told me they would never lease land. believe me, i would rather not pay to hunt. but i love it so much, that i do.

I've been right there with you, Stik made a good point seems like e verytime I leased it always got messed up. But just be greatful you got a place to go this story could have been really bad if the last landowner didn't let you hunt the other tract of land!

When leasing land get a multiple year contract if possible, saves the heartache of losing it unknown. A little prevention goes a long way!
