The biggest buck I ever saw was a 180+ B&C about 5 years ago in Illinois. Biggest buck I ever lost was a 170" last year during archery season. My neighbor ended up shooting it on opening weekend of gun season. It's really hard to think about it even today. He actually ended up gross scoring at 169 4/8.

I'm trying very hard to make sure I take the first opportunity at a good shot from now on, so that I'll be taking more dandy's home with me as well, when/if the chances comes again. ;\)

MZ season 2008, I was getting out of my stand and heading to the house. Out walks Bullwinkle (honestly, I've never seen a deer this large!!) 14 points I could count with the naked eye, body like a barrel, he was a monster!!!
Shouldered the MZ, squeezed the trigger, and click...NO BANG!! Some DA had removed the 209 cap prior to getting out of the stand!! I bet I sat shaking in that tree for 30 minutes afterwards

p.s. Never saw that deer again

The biggest buck I have ever seen was here in Tn a couple of days before Christmas in 2000. He and two other bucks walked up behind me as I sat on a log in the middle of an old skid road. It was mid-afternoon and unusually warm for that time of year. I had been fooled by some squirrels playing back there several times. When I heard yet another noise in the leaves I almost dismissed it. When I turned around, there the three of them were staring at me about 15 yards away! The biggest of them was a monster! The other two were very large as well. I blew the opportunity!

In 2007 I was MZ hunting on top of a ridge covered with white oaks. Several does crossed the ridge about 80 yards away. I could see glimpses of them thru the scope every now and then. Following close behind them was a huge buck. There never was a chance for a shot thru all the trees but I got a good look at his rack.

I moved my stand closer to where they crossed and came back early the next morning. A little after daylight several does came running by and then the buck showed up chasing them hard. The buck and 3 does circled my tree twice running wide open. I whistled and grunted, none of them payed any attention. Never could get a bead on him circling the tree like that, man ill never forget it. \:\) I almost threw my gun outta the tree that morning.

Great memories for sure but I only have 2 stories about big bucks getting away.

I was tagged out on bucks a couple of seasons ago and was doe hunting the last rifle season and four slick heads and a nice irregular buck was following them to the pond. I would guess him around mid to high 140s. Almost made me sick and I popped two of the does that were in the group.

Carlos, I have had that happen, the only I could stop the buck was yelling as loud as I could. He stopped for a second then gone again.
