Tell him weekends are reserved for you and your dad.
BUT since your dad wants him to come, perhaps your dad is looking forward to the rewards of sharing a first hunt with a new hunter?
2 of the best hunts I ever had was putting my nephew on his first deer& hog and putting one of my best friends on his best buck.
Perhaps your dad wants to share that joy with you and your best friend?
Maybe you should invite him and explain that you and your dad hunt weekends but this One Time you want to share his first hunt with your dad who got you started.

I may be on the other side of the fence, but by you talking to your dad, seems you may have some interest in your friend going or you would not have mentioned it. props to your dad, I would be the same way with my son if he comes to me and says he has a friend and wants to hunt with us. I would give him my spot also, To me that is what it is about, as much about fellowship as anything in my book. Matter of fact, I will be proud when my son grows up and wants to spend time in the woods with me as well as his friends. Can't wait. .......... Now if you don't want your friend to go, that may be another topic.

Sounds like your dad has solved your problem. I like your dads style, he sounds likes true class. If you by chance have a climbing stand you could put it right above your stand (if your using tree stand) and hunt with your buddy to give him some hands on advice and insight to what he needs to be aware of and you never know with bow hunting you might score a double. Just a suggestion...best of luck to guys.

I did this one year on my own property. I had pretty much the same situation happen and this is exactly what I did. not to side track it, but I fell asleep in my treestand (treelounge) and we had two bucks right under us. He was almost drawn back and I did the ole wake up shiver and they both bolted..LOL We laughed harder in our stands over that than anything in the world. It was a classic TK & Mike if I ever seen it. I think this might be your answer, plus I actually like hunting with somone from time to time.

Has he helped you out on the land any?That would go a long way with me,I actually had a guy ask the other day,"Hows the cabin coming along?Call me when your done and Ill come down and hunt with you."

Just tell him that opening weekend is always a special event for you and your father, and it's a tradition you want to keep. A friend should understand that pretty easily.
