Need some advice here. I have a buddy that has been my buddy ever since birth. He has always wanted to get into deer hunting but never really has gotten serious until now. Now he has a bow and has been shooting alot and is really quite proficient with it. He wont go out and find places to hunt and go out on his own, he expects someone to take him. SO, We talk and I plan on taking him. I tell him we can go during the WEEK, like on Monday evenings and Tuesday mornings. Now he has somehow got it into his head that Im taking him this WEEKEND??? And I have no idea how he came to that conclusion. On the weekend, my Dad and I always hunt together. We will be hunting my latest land purchase and I dont have but 2 stand sites prepared. Guess we could go in Friday evening and fix one up but that is the earliest I could get over there and I really hate to be in there the evening before opening day. Man I just dont know. Any advice on how I should respond to this? I feel bad for not taking someone but its like every body and their brother wants me to take them and it gets to be a real pain.

I know what you mean. Sometimes you just gotta make a decision. I too hunt with my family any time I can and I've had to deal with the exact same situations a few times in the past. If he's a true friend he should understand that family comes first!

X2. I would explain everything to him just as you have us and he SHOULD understand. If he has a real desire to hunt like most of us here, he will find a spot on public land or get in a lease like the rest of us have to do.

Just be honest with him.

That's a hard spot to be in. Family first though.

Honest...sometimes its tougher owning land and deciding who hunts it then not owning any. Be honest is the best you can do.

Some times you can be too good to people , not that I'm talking about your friend but I've been in a similar situation . I don't own a lot of land but I've been fortunate to be able to lease some very good property and every body wants you to take them ! I have other people who are on the leases also so it isn't fair to take alot of people even though we do take a guest sometimes . Be honest with him and tell him the truth . I believe if he is a good friend he'll understand and if he don't , he may not be the friend you think he is !!! Some times we need to test people to see what kind of friend they really are ... you'll be surprised !!! Tell him !!! ;\)

Just tell him that opening weekend is always a special event for you and your father, and it's a tradition you want to keep. A friend should understand that pretty easily.
