Due to club rules we can't step foot on the place from the end of last year's season until Sept 1 the following year so it's always late hanging any stands. In this case it really helps to know the area and have a history with deer movement through it. In any case I have a couple hung specifically for killing a couple of does early in the season with a few more spots in reserve. Somehow or another most of the archery stands I set up have the potential for point blank shots but most shot opportunities are 30-40 yards out.

Never heard of rules like that Mike. I would be for "limited usage", but does it help anything? Have you seen good results using this method?

I would think that from Sept 1 until opening day should be NO stepping foot in the area. I'd have everyone get what they had to do done before Sept. 1st each year that way there would be no traffic in the area for at least 2-3 weeks before season.

Rules is rules. That doesn't mean I like them or agree with them but I have to abide by them and make the most of it. There will be new places I gun hunt later on in the season as well as places I'm already familiar with but I'm really going to try this year to stay away from those spots until prime time.

Part of why those particular rules are in place on Mike's lease are due to "other" user groups, and not necessarily anything to do with "managing" the deer hunting.
The turkey hunters are a different group than the deer hunters, then there are field trials and bird hunters also using this area, plus the fact this is a huge "working" farm. Keeping the deer hunters off the property until Sept 1st is just their way of making room and reducing potential conflicts with other user groups. This "lack of off-season access" may be a negative to many deer hunters, but imo, it is more than made up for by having a deer-hunting lease with over 15,000 contigious acres in the Hatchee River Bottoms.
Not to mention, few areas in TN offer a hunter such a high annual opportunity at a 130-plus-class buck as this place. I'd probably be hunting there with Mike if I lived closer to his lease. Quite possibly, this is the overall best-managed large-scale deer hunting lease in TN, as it has the soil, the habitat, lots of agricultural crops, and a very healthy quality deer herd with most bucks living to 3 1/2 or older.

Close Wes...but it should read 18,600 acres in the Wolf River Bottoms.

I agree. It also has a very dedicated group of hunters who practice "trigger restraint" day in and day out.
