Without pics I'll do my best to describe.

A lone northern oak (already dropping acorns) is on the bank a creek and is 10 yards into a thicket off of a 25 acre soybean field.

I could put a stand right on the game trail to the tree but the only trees big enough for a stand are within 15 yards (anything else and I'd be doing some serious clearing for a shot).

Or

I could set a stand up just on the other side of the creek bank that would require minimal clearing, or even a ground blind. The problem is it's a 25 yard minimum shot across the creek.

Yes I know I'm really late but just gained access to this area. I actually spooked two does at the tree while fishing the creek.

So now I'm worried about putting the stand up this close to bow season or putting it up and not hunting it until MZ season.

A stand across the creek would be much easier access and less chance of being 'outed'.

If I put a stand on the tree side then crossing over the gametrail is unavoidable.

When I spooked the does I saw the tree and the trail so I didn't want to go looking for scrapes/rubs.

Advice is appreciated.

A little unorthodox but have you thought about getting up in the acorn tree?

without more description, I can not be sure of some key things.

wind directions are key .plus, never be so concerned with being able to see a certain tree, but more about getting close to a trail that leads to it, even if you have to get a good ways from the tree to do so.

do the deer use this tree in mornings or evenings....

I really need more info about access points, and alot about the surrounding area...

Who says you HAVE to be in a tree? Many a deer has died from the ground.
