It must have something to do with rainfall. Here in west Nashville, the earliest acorns to drop are the Sawtooths, yet they are still green and hanging on strong. I just got back from Humphreys County and not an acorn on the ground yet, not even the Mountain Chestnut that usually drop first. However, lots of excess hickories on the ground.

Some parts of TN got alot of rain while others didn't this summer. Where I'm at in Chattanooga we are several inches below normal and went several weeks without a drop in august

Same here with my observations in Hickman & Humphrey's countys last weekend.
Woods seem to look more opened up this year. Maybe because of the heavy flooding?

Very few acorns where I hunt in Bradley county. I am hoping the lack of rainfall will not negatively affect the acorn crop. I do have a red oak in my backyard in Hixson, that has already dropped enough to sprain ankles.

I have never seen as many acorns as I've seen on the property this year....there everywhere. Might not be a good thing with that many acorns...

I bet that has much to do with it. We are way over normal rainfall in west Nashville and we've already exceeded the normal annual rainfall in Humphreys County.

It will make hunting tough, that's for sure. Nothing worse than deer that can eat anywhere and everywhere.
